Hikmicro Habrok 4K 2.0 all-in-one binoculars review

Mat Manning tests the latest version of Hikmicro's groundbreaking day and night binoculars

Thermal imaging gear has revolutionised day and night airgun hunting over the past few years. The simple fact is, whether you’re shooting rats, rabbits or grey squirrels, it is so much easier to spot your quarry when you can see its heat profile.

The Hikmicro Habrok 4K 2.0 binoculars take spotting and observation to another level by combining thermal detection with infrared night vision and full-colour daytime viewing. And all that performance is packed into a shell that looks and feels very much like a traditional pair of binoculars.

Hikmicro pioneered the concept of the all-in-one digital hunting optic with the launch of Habrok back in 2023. The new 2.0 version boasts amazing 4K viewing and some great new refinements. The device featured here is the Habrok 4K 2.0 HE25L, which has a recommended retail price of £1,399.99. Housed in a magnesium chasses, these binoculars feel extremely robust and have clearly been made for proper field use in all weather and all environments.

In terms of their dimensions, these all-in-one binoculars are about 200mm long – including the eyecups – by about 135mm wide, and weigh under a kilo with the batteries fitted. Those proportions mean the Habroks really are no burden at all to carry. They even come supplied with a padded neck strap which is very comfortable and means they are always close to hand.

One of the greatest things about Habrok binoculars is their optical quality, but they are loaded with clever features and very easy to operate – which is good news because nobody want to have their shooting hampered by complicated technology. One simple and very effective feature on the Habrok 4K 2.0 is eyecups that slide in and out to achieve exactly the right fit for you. There is also a focusing wheel for each, so you can get the display pin-sharp for each eye.

Easy operation and long battery life

The Habrok’s controls have been designed for fast and intuitive operation – even in total darkness and when wearing gloves. At the back, you have a smooth and very precise focusing dial which comes to hand very instinctively. In front of that, is a very clever switch that toggles instantly between thermal viewing to digital viewing either in full colour or night vision. I found this feature excellent for quickly spotting heat profiles in thermal mode and then switching across for an even more detailed view and confident quarry identification.

The controls are very easy to master and you can do most of the main stuff one-handed. In normal viewing mode, the camera button captures a photo with a short press and starts and stops video recording with a longer press. Behind that is your rangefinder and menu button. A long press of that opens the menu whereas a short press starts range-finding from ten to 1000m and shows precise distance to target on the display. A short double press then stops range-finding.

Front right, you have the mode button. In colour viewing mode a long press shifts into night vision mode where short presses then shift between different colour pallets. A short press of the mode button also shifts between colour pallets during thermal viewing. Behind the mode button are two arrow keys. A long press of the rear one toggles you in and out of picture in picture (PIP) mode, while short presses of the arrow keys enable you to zoom in and out.

The Habroks have a stated runtime of 6.5 hours (depending what functions you are using) and there are several very clever power saving features to increase that time. The simplest is giving the power button a short press to put the binoculars into standby mode; give it another short press and they’re immediately back in action and ready for you to resume viewing straightaway. Hikmicro Habrok 4K 2.0 binoculars come supplied with four 18650 batteries and a charger – they only actually run on two batteries at a time, but the spares can be quickly swapped over to further increase runtime and keep you hunting right around the clock.

Habrok binoculars can connect to the awesome Hikmicro Sight app via your smartphone. This gives you access to all sorts of cool stuff including easy sharing of photo and video files and fast, simple firmware updates. They also have a stack of other features including a ballistic calculator, which will provide a precise aiming solution even if you’re using a traditional scope.

High-quality viewing in thermal, full-colour and infrared night vision

In thermal viewing mode, the Habroks run a high-sensitivity, sub 20 NETD detector with 1200m detection range. It’s got a 25mm F1 thermal lens with 4.3 to 17.2x magnification with smooth zoom in a choice of six colour palettes: White Hot, Black Hot, Fusion, Red Hot, Red Monochrome and Green Monochrome. The result is a remarkable viewing experience, even when quarry is partially obscured by undergrowth.

Although these all-in-one binoculars come in at what Hikmicro describes as an entry-level price point, they are packed with premium features, including HSIS shutterless technology. That shutterless feature eliminates the freezing you get with other devices when they calibrate and results in smooth, uninterrupted viewing, so you don’t miss a moment of the action.

Other features include EIS image stabilization to cut down wobble and Zoom Pro which reduces distortion at higher magnification levels. Combined with the 0.49” sub-round OLED display, those touches elevate the Habrok viewing experience to another level.

In full-colour digital daytime viewing mode, image quality is excellent and reveals very fine detail – I was literally able to see squirrels’ twitching whiskers. It is also amazing how bright the colour viewing is in poor light conditions at dawn and dusk. This is delivered through a 60mm F2.2 lens with 5.5-22x magnification.

The digital lens is also the one that gives you night vision out to 400m. The built in IR illuminator actually comes with 850 and 940 nm pills that you can swap out depending on whether you want optimum stealth or maximum viewing distance. The night vision viewing through the Habroks has to be seen to be believed. Sharp and detailed, it is perfect for precision viewing after initial spotting in the thermal mode.

Dependable performance for successful hunting

Hikmicro works very closely with real-world shooters to ensure that their advanced technology translates into genuinely useful products that give dependable performance out in the field. The Habrok 4K 2.0 certainly does that. It might look and feel similar to a traditional pair of binoculars but it does so much more. It is a highly versatile all-in-one viewing system that should assist in any hunting situation.

An optic of this price will always be a considered purchase. If your shooting and budget justifies the outlay, the insight that Habrok 4K 2.0 binoculars give with their sharp 4K viewing in thermal, full colour or sharp night vision will definitely help you to put more pests in the bag. Even with very small airgun quarry such as rats and grey squirrels, I have found them to work brilliantly, and if you also do deer or fox shooting, they should be very useful for that too.
